Karpathos Island
Karpathos Village is conceived as a quiet ensemble of summer villas shaped by light, material honesty, and the rhythm of island living. Rather than imposing a singular architectural gesture, the project is structured as a sequence of volumes that feel grounded, familiar, and closely tied to their setting.
The exterior composition balances textured stone walls with smooth, pale surfaces, creating a dialogue between weight and lightness. These volumes are arranged to offer privacy while maintaining visual continuity across the site, with shaded terraces, planted courtyards, and shallow water features extending the living experience outdoors. Timber pergolas filter sunlight throughout the day, producing subtle shifts of shadow that animate the façades without ornament.
Interiors follow the same restrained logic. Spaces are open yet composed, defined by proportion, texture, and carefully controlled light rather than decorative excess. A muted palette of warm whites, sand tones, and natural wood establishes a sense of calm, while tactile materials -soft textiles, stone surfaces, woven elements- bring depth and comfort. Built-in furniture and integrated storage allow rooms to remain uncluttered, supporting a slower, more intuitive way of inhabiting the space.
Bedrooms and bathrooms are treated as private retreats, with soft lighting, generous surfaces, and a focus on ease of use. Visual connections to the outdoors are maintained throughout, reinforcing the relationship between interior life and the surrounding landscape.
Karpathos Village is not defined by spectacle, but by atmosphere. It is designed to be experienced gradually -through light, touch, and movement- offering a contemporary interpretation of island hospitality that feels understated, grounded, and enduring.
