Kalamaria, Thessaloniki, Greece
K–Residence is a private apartment located in Kalamaria, Thessaloniki. The project focuses on clarity of space, restrained materiality, and a balanced relationship between natural and artificial light.
The main living area is organized as a continuous open space that connects the living room, dining area, and kitchen. Rather than introducing strong visual separations, the layout allows functions to transition smoothly from one zone to another. Large openings and light curtains soften and diffuse daylight, creating a calm and consistent atmosphere throughout the interior.
The material palette is deliberately restrained. Wood surfaces, stone textures, and soft fabrics form the base of the composition, while darker elements in lighting fixtures and fittings introduce subtle contrast. The aim is not to create visual intensity but to establish a quiet material balance that supports everyday living.
Particular attention was given to the fixed elements of the interior. Storage units, shelving, and built-in furniture were designed as integral architectural components rather than added objects. This approach maintains visual continuity and prevents the spaces from becoming cluttered.
In the private areas of the apartment, the same principles are applied with even greater simplicity. Bedrooms are organized around essential functions—rest, storage, and occasional work—using soft textures and a limited range of materials. The bathrooms are defined by continuous stone surfaces and restrained detailing, emphasizing clarity and ease of use.
The overall design of K–Residence relies on consistency in materials, careful proportions, and a clear spatial organization. The result is a living environment that remains calm and functional, without relying on expressive gestures or decorative excess.
